Kelcourse helped cut through red tape

To the editor:

I wanted to publicly thank Rep. Jim Kelcourse for the way he recently helped me renew my driver’s license after much difficulty in trying to do it on my own.

I am an 84-year-old woman who has lived in Salisbury most of my life. I was born in Italy and moved to this country as a little girl in 1937. My father was an American citizen, so I, too, hold American citizenship.

Since I was born in Italy, my birth certificate is handwritten in Italian. The only proof I have of my American citizenship is an expired U.S passport. I never imagined what a problem that would cause me.
